Millions of women are bothered by spider veins - those small yet unsightly clusters of red, blue or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. At Rejuve we can effectively treat these superficial veins quickly and safely using a safe sclerosing formula that is injected into the vessels.
The skin of your legs will appear younger, clearer and more healthy-looking. Patients experience outstanding results with minimal bruising and no downtime.
Pricing requires a consultation with one of our nurses or physicians.
What Are Spider Veins?
Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are tiny red or blue veins the size of a fine thread that may look like a spider that appears on the legs and face. Heredity, pregnancy, hormonal changes, weight gain, prolonged sitting or standing, and certain medications may cause spider veins to develop.
What you need to do before the procedure?
Prior to sclerotherapy, avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications before your session to minimize bruising. Certain medications such as tetracycline should be avoided before and after sclerotherapy as it may possibly cause a staining of the skin. No lotion should be applied.
What to Expect From Sclerotherapy?
After each sclerotherapy session, the veins will appear lighter. Two to four sessions are usually needed to achieve optimal results.
What are the risks of sclerotherapy?
Temporary cosmetic risks include bruising, hard and lumpy veins, transient pigmentation, and neovascularization. Serious medical complications are extremely rare.
What happens during a sclerotherapy session?
A typical sclerotherapy session will last 15 to 45 minutes. A physician or nurse will inject sclerosing agent through a very fine needle into the affected veins in your legs. The number of veins injected in one session varies, and depends on the size and location of the veins, as well as the general medical condition of the patient. A cotton ball and compression tape is applied to each area of the leg as it is finished.
You may feel a small needle stick and mild burning sensation, but is generally well tolerated.
Who are Not Candidates for Sclerotherapy?
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What happens after the treatment?
After the treatment you will be able to drive yourself home and resume your regular daily activities. Walking is encouraged. You will be instructed to wear medical grade support hosiery to "compress" the treated vessels.
For 48 hours following the injections, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications. Also, avoid hot baths, hot compresses, whirlpools or saunas, direct exposure to sunlight, and heavy aerobic or weight-bearing activities. Showers are permitted, but the water should be lukewarm. The injection sites may be washed with a mild soap and tepid water.
Although you probably won't want to wear any leg-bearing fashions for about two weeks, your activity will not be significantly limited in any other way from sclerotherapy treatment.
